Restitutio in 2019

Happy New Year! In reflecting over Restitutio content from 2019, I can’t help but feel so thankful to all of the many people who came on the show and made it such a great year. Here is a little review of some of the series of episodes we put out in 2019.

At the beginning of the year Dale Tuggy debated Michael Brown on the Trinity, resulting in our most downloaded episode of the year. After the debate, I interviewed Brown and Tuggy individually as followups. Then, Jerry Wierwille and I spent four whole episodes carefully responding to Brown’s opening statement.

Then from January to July, I put out a 24 session theology class. (By the way, did you know we have a separate feed for just classes? You can find it by searching ‘restitutio classes’ in your podcast app.) This was both scary and satisfying. It was scary because the more beliefs I put out there, the more reasons I give people to disagree with me. It was satisfying because it afforded me the opportunity to put out a comprehensive understanding that both made a positive case for a wide range of doctrines as well as interacted with texts that sometimes confuse people. Judging by the downloads this class received, people are genuinely interested in doctrine!

In the late summer and early fall, I put out a series of interviews with a wide range of different Christian thinkers (Gloria Olivier, Bill Schlegel, Shane Claiborne, Leah Fronczek, Maurice Chahilu, and Becket Cook).

Next I played out a series on the bible’s wisdom literature, including treatments of Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes, and the Gospels. Then after a few more interviews on apologetics, abortion, and missionary work, we started on our current series about foreknowledge and free will.

All in, Restitutio put out 56 podcast episodes in 2019, totaling to 74,851 unique downloads (a 30% increase over 2018). Thanks to all of you who have contributed, shared, commented, downloaded, and helped! I’m looking forward to an exciting 2020. I’ve already got some great content lined up, including interviews with Sam Storms on spiritual gifts as well as John Truitt on dispensationalism.

  • I started listening to Restitutio this year, and what an enormous help it has been to my spiritual growth!
Many Christians will not seriously engage with opposing ideas, but I aspire to your example, Sean, of kindly and respectfully engaging with ideas and opinions I do not (yet) call my own.
The truth has nothing to fear.

Thank you for offering such a complete and systematic overview in your theology class—it filled in gaps for both my husband and myself and we enjoyed it! Thank you also for helping us change our minds on baptism. Your podcast (and your personal leadership!) were instrumental in that significant change for us.

I look forward to Restitutio’s 2020 with delight. God bless you and your work.
