518 Tried to Believe in the Trinity (Rick Naviello)

Listen to this episode on Spotify or Apple Podcasts

We’ve all heard plenty of stories of Trinitarians who begin questioning their received teaching and eventually become Unitarian. However, today, we’re bringing you a story that’s a little different. My guest is Rick Naviello who held a biblical unitarian view of Jesus for decades before attending evangelical churches and really trying to believe in the Trinity. He did everything he could to convince himself it was true. He thought he had succeeded until… Well, I don’t want to give away the punchline, but let’s just say he’s more convinced of his biblical unitarian faith than ever. (And church history was involved.)

  • Great interview with Rick. I’ve done similarly—after being a JW decades ago tried hard to prove to myself that the Bible teaches the trinity. I went into seminary grad school two years ago to give it my all. Now, as I’m graduating (and wondering the seminary will refuse to grant me my degree), God has answered my decades-long prayers by leading me to this podcast and many other resources to help me see from the Bible that Unitarianism is the truth and the heritage of the Old and New Testaments. I’m so grateful to all involved in the reformation movement to restore authentic Christianity.

Sean, Rick mentioned a talk Jerry (?) gave recently (at the conference?) on Romans 10:13 and clarifying the OT reference to the Lord (used by trinitarians to prove Jesus is the Lord from Joel). Could you put the link in the show notes to that talk? Thanks!

    • Thanks for sharing your story, Susanne. Why wouldn’t they graduate you if you completed the course work?

Here is the link to Jerry’s 2022 presentation at the UCA Conference, titled “Applying Old Testament YHWH Passages to Jesus.”
