This is a follow-up discussion to Will Barlow’s Scripture and Science class, parts 9-11. If you haven’t watched or listened to that yet, you can watch it on Youtube or find it on the Restitutio audio podcast feed as episodes 469-471 on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.
Will asks Sam about the issues that arise between believing in both the authority of scripture and the theory of evolution. Sam shares his story of starting out as a creationist and moving to evolution while studying Bio-Statistics at Cornell. They discuss genetics, the origin of life, the Cambrian explosion, mutations, and understanding Genesis 1 and 2.

A very interesting discussion. If possible, bring back Sam again, for further questioning. For example :
(a). As a Theistic Evolutionist, does Sam see any viable possibility of there still, nevertheless, being an actual historical Adam?
(b). Does Sam acknowledge the possibility that any processes of ‘Progressive Creationism’ and ‘Theistic Evolution’ could have been combined?
(c). How personally certain is Sam, regarding the doctrine of Evolution / Theistic Evolution? (e.g. ‘One hundred percent,’ certain? or more like, ‘Eighty (plus) percent,’ certain?)
Finally, I thought Sam made an intriguing point when he seemingly made a brief reference to what appears to be Dr. Rupert Sheldrakes ‘Morphic Resonance’ theory – whereby sentient creatures can have access to a behaviour-influencing, collective, species memory which is not encoded in the genes (but operates parapsychologically). Interestingly, Dr. Sheldrake believes that ‘morphic resonance’ may have implications for some Christian doctrine of ‘Original Sin’.
A true disciple of Christ can not believe in Evolution.
