Can the Bible Get Science Wrong?

This is a follow-up discussion to Will Barlow’s Scripture and Science class, episode 16. If you haven’t watched or listened to that yet, you can go here to find on the Restitutio podcast feed as episode 479 here.

Sean Finnegan asks Will Barlow about the possibility of the Bible getting scientific descriptions wrong. How can we affirm that God inspired scripture, therefore making it authoritative if it contains scientific errors? They discuss the possible responses to this question.

  1. The Bible never gets anything wrong. Science is wrong.
  2. The Bible needs to be de-mythologized and interpreted metaphorically.
  3. The Bible communicates in the categories available at the time without endorsing their limited scientific understanding
  4. The Bible gets science wrong so it can’t be trusted

Which of these four options do you think is best?
