God doesn’t just say to not work on the Sabbath, He says to keep it holy. It’s also not any day out of seven, it’s the seventh day – the only day God blessed and sanctified. Is it important to keep it? Is it important to not lie, steal, murder, etc? Is it okay to take God’s name in vain, worship graven images, etc.? Keeping the Sabbath is the fourth commandment, it’s written in stone and is as important as the other nine. We’re not to let others work for us on the Sabbath either. The new covenant (agreement) is the law written on our hearts. Same law as the old covenant, but the old one was written on stone. Jesus didn’t change one jot or one tittle of the law. He kept the seventh day Sabbath and so should we. Why is there so much debate over this one commandment? It’s so clear and it’s also the one outward proof that we are God’s children – all the other commandments can be hidden and not obvious to an onlooker, but keeping the Sabbath is an obvious sign. We cannot choose which day we keep as a sabbath. There is only one Sabbath and that is the seventh day. There is a special blessing to those who keep it, it’s quality time spent with God.
