Why Christianity Class

Restitution is excited to present a new class, Why Christianity, running April through July 2021!

Class Description

Can you explain why Christianity makes sense? In a culture where Christianity is falling more and more out of fashion, it’s increasingly important to have confidence in your faith. This FREE 16 week class will take you through a number of key topics to cover why Christianity is both rational and practical.  We’ll cover typical apologetics topics like how we know God exists, the Bible is true, and the resurrection happened, but we will also delve into some “heart reasons” why Christianity is so appealing, including getting through suffering, identity, inclusiveness, and community.  Additionally, we’ll explain the overarching metanarrative of scripture (creation, fall, redemption, and restoration) to provide you with a handy way of explaining the big picture.  The end result is a well-rounded class that will equip you with what you need to strengthen your own faith as well as confidently share it with others.

Instructors

Jerry Wierwille earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Maryland, but soon after graduation he felt the call to Christian ministry. He has earned a Masters of Theological Studies (MTS) at United Theological Seminary with a focus in New Testament Studies and Pauline Literature, and he has also completed a subsequent Masters of Divinity (MDiv) program at the same institution. Since answering the call to ministry, Jerry has been active in serving God’s people both on a pastoral level and scholarly level. He is currently on staff as the Worship Pastor at Living Hope Community Church.

Sean Finnegan serves as the Lead Pastor of Living Hope Community Church. He holds an Masters of Theological Studies (MTS) in Early Christian History from Boston University, a BA in Theology from Atlanta Bible College, and a BS in Computer Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Sean’s omnivorous appetite has lead him to pursue research in theology, Bible, apologetics, textual criticism, ethics, and church history. However, his greatest passion is the Great Commission–reaching new people with the gospel message and helping Christ-followers deepen their discipleship (Matthew 28:19-20).

Daniel Fitzsimmons earned his bachelors in journalism and wrote for newspapers in New York City, the Hudson Valley, and Schenectady before transitioning to public relations in Albany.  As someone versed in public perception, he brings his informed perspective to the question, “How can we connect with those outside Christianity?”  He also contributed to 45 episodes of Restitutio’s Off Script series, covering a wide range of culturally relevant topics from a Christian perspective, including capital punishment, Muslim immigrants, sexual harassment, tattoos, refugees, TV shows, and much more.  He’s also served as a missionary in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
